Videodrome
Videodrome is a video installation that recreates the feeling of zapping through TV channels as a kid to find something to watch. Where nowadays we lie in bed, doomscrolling on our phones, in the past we probably did the same with the TV. This installation automates this process, so we don't even need to press a button on the remote control to change channels.
The installation is named after the movie of the same name from 1983. It runs on a Raspberry Pi connected to an old tube TV and plays random segments of videos from the archive.org VHS Vault. The selection of the video pool was done randomly, as is the selection and length of the currently playing snippet. The switching to the next video snippet happens automatically, and the pool consists of multiple hours of video material, so you can just sit in front of the TV for hours.
