MOTHER

MOTHER, named after the AI Mainframe for the Nostromo from the first Alien movie, is a small server in our office.

It is a Zotac ZBOX CI540 nano with a dual core Intel i5-4210Y processor that is passivley cooled and 8 GB of RAM. It has a 100 GB SSD for the system and a RAID 6 array with multiple TB of usable space in an external USB-C enclosure, both running with a btrfs filesystem and automatic snapshots.

The server runs Ubuntu Server with multiple Samba shares for our internal network, a WebDav server for external connections to the same shares, a syncthing instance for automatic file syncing, an automatic backup-script for some other servers and a small webserver with a fileshare page. It also clones the latest nightly btrfs snapshot to FATHER and backups my laptop as soon as it connects to the office WiFi.
